THE BEST CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS DON'T END AT THE APPOINTMENT

Your next client might already be in your diary.

20 Sept 2026

Personal styling has historically been built around big moments.

  1. The wardrobe overhaul.

  2. The new job.

  3. The holiday.

  4. The wedding.

  5. The season change.

The appointment happens. The stylist does their thing. The client leaves with a wardrobe full of possibilities and then life gets in the way. Six months later, they need help again.

WHAT IF THE RELATIONSHIP DIDN’T HAVE TO GO QUIET IN BETWEEN? Styling is an ongoing problem. Getting dressed isn’t something your client does once a season, they get dressed every day. They travel, they have dinners, they buy something new, the weather changes, their body changes, their job changes, they get invited somewhere they weren’t expecting… the list is literally endless. They forget how to wear the things you showed them six months ago.

There is a huge amount of styling value sitting in the space between appointments. This is where retention becomes interesting. We talk a lot in business about acquiring clients but for an independent stylist, there is an equally important question:

HOW USEFUL ARE YOU ONCE YOU’VE ACQUIRED THEM?
A client who sees you once every two years is valuable, a client who sees you once every season is more valuable, a client who thinks of you whenever they have a wardrobe problem is something else entirely.

The answer isn’t necessarily to constantly sell them another appointment. It might simply be to remain useful. Think smaller… a weekly outfit edit, a holiday wardrobe because they don’t have time to pack for themselves. Three ways to wear those new trousers they purchased….

And don’t forget one of the most valuable of all - the wardrobe detox. No other app offers that as a service and not only can you detox your clients wardrobe remotely on FASHPACK you can help her sell it without all the sad little ‘for sale’ posts on insta stories.

None of these necessarily needs to become a three-hour appointment but collectively, they make the stylist part of the client’s ongoing decision-making and that’s where the relationship becomes much harder to replace.

THE WARDROBE BECOMES THE RELATIONSHIP
This is one of the reasons I’m particularly interested in digital wardrobes, not because taking photographs of clothes is exciting (remember we have a paste url feature to help with that and bulk upload options for clients moving from one digital wardrobe to another), it isn’t, but because once the client’s wardrobe is digitised, the stylist has a much better way of continuing the conversation.

The wardrobe becomes a living record of the work you’ve done together. It gives you somewhere to build from and it gives the client somewhere to return to.

That’s a very different proposition from:

“Here are the outfits we created last Tuesday.”

It’s:

“Here’s your wardrobe. And I’m still here to help you use it.”

That is the direction FASHPACK is designed to support and it is why I think the future of styling will be less about the occasional big appointment and more about ongoing relevance.
